Push

My head is held up above the water. It’s held up by those who came before me, held up by my friends, my family, my teachers, held up by everyone’s hands.
I am pushed.
I am pushed by a long line of people all also pushing each other.
Forwards.
I am the captain of my ship, and I need to direct all that energy to find purchase, to find land. In which direction am I to go when all I see is ocean?
I am pushed in many directions, by the wind.
Some routes are faster than others, some will slow me down. How do I know who to trust? Where to go?
Land is visible, but only in the mind, for now. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever see the beach. If there is an end to all this ocean, if my vessel is even capable of making it.
All I can say is, to every boat out there: we will all meet the ground eventually, so don’t stop moving.
Find your land, and plant your flag.
- This turned into something completely different than I imagined. But I hope I captured the uncertainty behind big life choices like university and just figuring out who you are when nobody’s telling you what to do next.
